An interview with Mixed-media artist Minjun Kuang (Mikky K).
What initially sparked your interest in pursuing art, and how has your journey evolved since then?
Art has been ingrained in my life since childhood, thanks to my upbringing in an artistic family. The spark of creating was instilled in me during my earliest memories, and it has remained with me ever since. Over the years, this fascination with the intersection of aesthetics and meaning has driven me to explore various styles and more themes in my artistic journey. As I've grown, my pursuits in art have evolved alongside me - experimenting different mediums, techniques, and concepts, constantly cultivating my creativity. Despite the evolution, one thing remains constant: I approach my art with the same sense of wonder and curiosity as I did when I was a child.

Can you tell us about a specific piece of your artwork that holds particular significance to you, and what inspired its creation?
One particular artwork that holds significant meaning for me is a project centered around the Appearance Anxiety and Perfectionism comes from my own experience, with a strong emphasis on feminine theme. This project focused on the societal pressures placed on women to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty. Through this work, I aimed to shed light on the internal struggles many individuals face in their pursuit of perfection.
Amazingly, after exhibiting this piece, I received an anonymous email expressing gratitude. The sender shared that my artwork had provided her a profound sense of healing and resonance, unexpectedly offering solace in her long-standing personal battle with ADHD. This encounter was incredibly moving and reinforced my belief in the transformative power of art; it also served as a reminder that how visual art has the ability to touch the lives of others in ways we may never anticipate.
This experience not only validated the importance of my artistic expression but also inspired me to continue creating work that has the potential to positively impact others.
How do you navigate the balance between staying true to your artistic vision and experimenting with new techniques or styles?
While I am open to experimentation, my artwork still remains tethered to my inner core, ensuring that every piece expresses with the pure authenticity that defines my artistic identity. I see my art creation as a deep personal journey of self-discovery. So, "I" am the core and standard by which I navigate - I embrace innovation, but never done blindly. Every artistic endeavour is rooted in the voice within me and instinctual choices, rather than any other external factors like trends or commercial appeal.

What role do you believe art plays in society, and how do you envision your work contributing to the artistic dialogue?
In my view, art can be a gateway to new dimensions of understanding, enriching our perception of the nowness or even the future. As a visual artist, my aspiration is to create work that resonates with people on both personal and universal levels. Utilizing my visual language, I aim to engage viewers in a meaningful conversation surrounding contemporary issues or timeless themes by offering fresh perspectives and immersive experiences, presenting my artwork as a unique lens through which to perceive our ever-evolving world.
